Vintage Patterns

Well everyone, I had my first extremely creepy Internet experience. I'd like to start this with a personal dedication:

Dear Ramona Hill of Twining, MI,

Thank you for reading my blog and for all the lovely patterns. I am very flattered to have such a dedicated fan, but I have to be honest with you, sending me a package via the US mail to my house really creeped me out. If you find my address on the Internet, please tell me how so I can fix it.

Sincerely,

Stacie

P.S. If you have any friends with such a great collection to share, please have them e-mail me first. I'd like to keep some notion of privacy in this Internet based world.

Now, on to the goods. Dear Ramona sent me some fantastic vintage patterns.

This is the first up, it is a sweet little sundress and bolero in my size, which was called stout back in the day. I love the collar and pocket button detail. I'm no vintage pattern expert, and these are actually the first I've laid my hands on. If you know anything about them, please share.

This is a fantastic dress with a scalloped bodice. I believe the 46 is the bust size. That makes it a bit big, but I'm sure I can size it down.

On the left here you can see the apron this pattern is for. It is very cute, but did not come in an envelope.

This one may be my favorite. I love the sweetheart neckline and heart pockets. And of course it is my favorite because it is a size 14 and a 32 inch bust. That is a bit of a stretch, but who wouldn't try to lose a full foot off their bust size to fit into a dress like that?

This is another tiny one, a size 16, but it is really cute.

This is a child's pattern for a coat, dress and jacket. It is very adorable. I want to make it right now, but I don't happen to know any children. If I meet one, they will be wearing this outfit by weeks end. And posted all over the Internet to have wildly passionate fans like Ramona!

This is another apron. It reminds me of the ones in HBO's Mildred Pierce. I may need to make this is some pretty fabric.

Oh, this last one is a size 14. What I love though is the caplet that is detachable from the dress. That is adorable!

And what is that fantastic blue background? Why that is my new jacket  made from Simplicity 2443 thanks for asking!

I've been admiring Heather's for awhile and decided I needed it in blue. With buttons. Just like hers. Now I'm starting to sound like one of those fans...

Seriously Ramona, thank you so much for sending me these. In the future if I do something dumb that allows everyone to see my address, please dear readers, let me know!

  1. It's awesome that she sent you patterns, but it wold definitely creep me out too. I don't know if you have your first and last name listed anywhere alongside with your city, like on Pattern Review and such, one can access phone books online, and would be able to find your address.

Also if you list your city, and someone really wants to creep, then things like the assessed value of your house could be accessed from public records posted online.

I don't know how she got your address, but just throwing some things out there that everyone might want to be careful about. First and last name, plus a city, and a few hours of free time and most people can find out your address, phone number, and how much your house is worth.

  2. Well, if you decide to send me any of those lovely patterns, please give me a heads up first! I'm sure this Ramona meant well, and just wanted to surprise you. It is still a little strange, and I hope it's nothing skeevy about it. Those are beautiful patterns, and it seems kind of her to send them along.

I'm excited to see what you do with them! Also, I'm excited to see your jacket (love the colour)! I'll let you in on a secret...I still haven't replaced the safety pins for D-rings yet... But it works fine anyways. lol

  3. Hi,
I'm Stacie's Mom. I was so impressed by her blog and all the gorgeous things she made that I told my friends about it. Ramona is a very dear friend of mine. She offered to share some of her vintage patterns with my daughter and I wanted the pkg to be a surprise for Stacie, not thinking of how unsettling it could be for her to receive a pkg from someone she didn't know. I'm sorry for the lack of judgement on my part,Stacie. I never intended to cause you concern, thinking your personal address was floating around cybespace. I gave it to Ramona privately.Next time I'll know to ask you first. Please have fun with these adorable patterns.

  4. I've been guilty of the same lack of judgment. I sent 12 days of wacky presents to my nephews anonymously thinking it would be fun for them to get a package a day at Christmas. I never thought how creeped-out my sister was when these packages with no return address showed up for her boys.

I'm glad your mom reads your blog.
